It’s a Great Day To Be A Tar Heel!
Carolina is an extraordinary institution with an unrivaled community; we can achieve great things when we work together.
Here’s the proof: Carolina received nearly $447 million in commitments in fiscal 2015 thanks to the tremendous generosity of our donors. That marked our best year ever in fundraising. Coming from almost 69,000 donors, the gifts will support every corner of campus, from students to faculty to patients, and advance our mission to better human welfare across the state and around the world. Many thanks to everyone who gave; truly, every gift matters.
Each year, private support provides the funding that creates Carolina’s margin of excellence. Fundraising supports aid programs like the Carolina Covenant, helps researchers find new cures for diseases, provides training for local officials to spur economic growth across North Carolina and much more.
Just this year, private gifts helped create seven new endowed professorships to help us keep renowned faculty members in Chapel Hill and successfully recruit those rising stars who will further enrich our academic core. To date, there are 501 endowed chairs on UNC’s campus. Your investment in student access and support created 101 new scholarships and fellowships to encourage the best and the brightest undergraduate and graduate students to choose Carolina for their education. Because of your generosity, Carolina offers a total of 1,656 endowed scholarships and 813 endowed fellowships to educate the next generation of global leaders.
Many areas on campus saw exponential growth as well, with some posting triple- and even one quadruple-digit increase over last year. Others matched our overall accomplishment by having their best fund-raising year in history, too. This video will give you the numbers in depth as well as show you the broad impact of your generosity.
This extraordinary outpouring of support for our University is an incredible vote of confidence in our work, a mandate to stay true to our mission and a call to action to lead public education, pioneering research and public service into the future. And with your help, we can do it.
Because of you, the future looks even brighter.
Because of you, the best is yet to come.
